Blessing of the Shrimp Fleet & Family Fun Day

Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, Golden Meadow

Decorated shrimp boats parade down Bayou Lafourche up to the church where the priest blesses them in the hopes of a successful shrimping season. A fishermen's Mass takes place at 5PM and a meal and a Cajun band help celebrate the event after the blessing with a Fais Do Do. Now in its 92nd year the Blessing of the Shrimp Fleet is the oldest on going shrimp fleet blessing in the United States. The event has taken place since 1916.
